When your life feels like a joke, try to laugh

Well, I just notified person #4 about my 'news.' The poor woman altering my wedding dress. She has already altered the dress substantially, first to contain my curves, then to fit as I lost weight, and now potentially to let it back out again ... I was super-superstitious about talking about it, and almost made JD call. And I would never plan this far in advance if not for our financial constraints. But I need to buy 4 sets of round-trip plane tickets and one one-way ticket to be used between mid-May and the end of June and in order to get the very cheapest ones and to use my 3 free tickets,* I need to buy them now. But in order to do that I needed to know if she would alter my dress once again under a tight deadline, or whether (because it is after all peak wedding season and she's in NYC and charging me less already as a broke student) I should find someone else, someplace else. Argh!!!

The good news: she'll try (did I mention the dress has boning? not exactly the easiest thing to add a few extra inches around the waist in 10 days flat. i also bought it used so it was never exactly the right fit for me. i can't imagine more curves will help).

The bad news: I now have a full week of time to kill in NYC. And my apartment is rented to someone else. And JD's parents live 2 hours outside the city. And, well, I might be feeling rather sick at that point and not exactly the best house guest for my 2 gay guy friends who live in studios.

The maybe good/maybe bad: I may plan a little mini-vacation for the intermediate time. The perpetual temptation of free tickets is that they are good 'anywhere in the USA.' The secret is that they are good for very limited times, on limited routes. If I can harass the airlines into giving it to me, I may fly 2000 miles to see a dear friend with kids who will be extraordinarily sympathetic if I was sick and whiny and grumpy while visiting her.

But then it sounds like my life will be even more of a circus than normal.
This is when the Magic 8 Ball would be so useful.

I chatted briefly with both of my parents today about plane tickets. They have no idea why I am planning so far ahead. Which is probably a good thing because they -would not- approve of these plans. Whereas JD is resigned to the whole idea and rather in awe of my ability to collect free plane tickets.

* I volunteer to be bumped on every single flight I take. And I have frequent flier miles on every single airline I have ever flown. It adds up.

I would be terrified to tell the dress lady... but how can you avoid it?

I'm the complete opposite. I once paid a guy for his seat after I got bumped.
