The important news is that everything is fine.
The frustrating news is that my Ob/Gyn lived up to my every expectation as per her unprofessional office and nursing staff. If I had to describe her in one word, it would be: incompetent.
The proof:
- She asked me four times when my last menses was (I did not bleed at all after my last failed cycle, and apparently that's totally normal for anovulatory women) so at a minimum my last induced bleed was 3 months before the successful cycle. My last 'natural' period was 1992.
- She then proceeded to tell me that she could not calculate an EDD from ovulation, but not to worry when she gets my records from the IF clinic they will have penciled in the EDD (???????)
- I told her I wanted an NT and saw no reason for a regular u/s, but she refused to take me without one, so I had an u/s (and really, what type of incredibly self-control did it take for me to attempt to decline a peak at the belly). She then told me the baby was measuring a week behind, but not to worry about it (don't worry, I'll get more accurate information soon and did not have a heart attack from this news since I was already a bit skeptical)
- She told me an NT scan could only be done between weeks 12 and 13, and when I explained that I would be gettin' hitched then and unavailable, she very grudgingly agreed to let me go see the tech and talk to her about it
- She assured me that even if they did the scan today the bloodwork would have to be done between weeks 12 and 13
I also only saw the doctor for about 5 minutes and didn't get to ask any of my crazy questions (anyone know if over-the-counter teeth whitener is safe at this point? Not to be excessively superficial or anything, but my teeth are a bit yellow). I have gained 8 lbs at 10 and a half weeks, which seems to be a bit much but my doctor flippantly told me "Sometimes the baby hasn't read the book at this point." (Great. Tell a woman who is paranoid about early onset GD that her worries are idiotic). I asked about calcium intake since I am lactose intolerant but she didn't have anything to say about it. However, she did assure me that she just recently had a baby (as did all of the doctors in the office), so she's knows all about it (I really tried not to snort - a. way to make the IF patient feel great b. I'll be opening up my own IF clinic on Thursday if anyone needs any medical advice)
The clinic doesn't have any good u/s machines so they sent me up to a high-risk clinic in the same building for the NT. From stage right, enter stunningly gorgeous and pleasant tech. She assured me that the NT charts are based on the size of the fetus, not the gestational age and that as long as the fetus was big enough we could do the scan.
Well, it turns out our little secret was a few cm short so I'm back next week for the NT scan. However, our little secret is measuring 1 day ahead of gestational age and has a heartbeat of 165, which she said was perfect. Also, she drew my blood and look at my previous genetic testing, so that they can give me an instant assessment of the risk next week. And my appointment is at 9 am, so JD will hopefully be able to come for once.
I feel so incredibly relieved. I know I'm still in the danger period, but having made it to 10w4d without any spotting (or real symptoms, for that matter) seems like a huge milestone.

Sorry for the incompetent staff, but the news sounds good!
I'm glad everything is fine, but how on earth is this woman a doctor? She can't give you an EDD? Good grief.
wow..talk about frustration! Happy to hear that you and baby are doing good though. :)
Congrats. That's an awesome heart rate.
I'm closing in on 7 weeks and my weight is already out of control. I swear my belly is already sticking out too. Maybe it's because I was pregnant a few months ago. *shrug*
So are you going to be seeing patients Thursday or will it take you a bit to hire your incompetent staff?
Sorry for the frustration, but I'm glad all is well!
