trying not to panic

First, the good. I was met at the airport yesterday but a very, slightly pukey baby and his four-year-old sister and I've been having a great time with them. We're even sleeping in one bedroom and its been fine (and very cute at bedtime).

Now, the bad news. Which I know is relative, but yet again, I've messed up. I finally saw my friend who gave birth in NYC on Monday and she just e-mailed me her Ob/Gyn referrals this morning. All of the doctors and midwives who use the bi.rthi.ing c.ent.er in Man.hatt.an that I would like to use. And they are all full for December. I guess regular fertile women have no trouble booking their birth at 9 weeks. But me? Waitlisted at four places, and the lists are full at two others. I have no idea what I'm supposed to do now. Are there really that few doctors in NYC? Do they really expect me to sit back and hear in 2-3 months if I've made it off the waitlist (and presumably I'm supposed to be secretly hoping for horrible, horrible news for at least 6 women at my top choice so that I can make it onto the list because why else would you cancel your birthing reservation?)

I know IF readers aren't the best group to ask about this, but any suggestions for places to give birth in NYC? Or doctors who will take a slacker like me?

Cornelle hospital is supposed to be very nice. I don't know if that was on your list.
