We went to visit my parents for New Years, like we do every year (just one of the joys of celebrating 3 different New Years every year)
1. I had my hair cut by my mother's hair dresser when I was very sleepy. End result: my mother's hair cut. I am now rocking the tired-new-mom-needs-easy-maintenance-cut and look about 5 years older. Oh well.
2. I got to meet the international squash duo and they are adorable! Of course, JD and I behaved very much like city bumkins: "You have a bathroom directly off of your bedroom! And your own washing machine! And room for 5 chairs in the kitchen!" I also received the most lovely box of outgrown newborn clothes. Manna for the pre-nesting-stage nesting woman.
3. We did not go on a big getaway. I did leave the fusspot overnight and we went a little under 10 minutes away to a nice hotel. I slept until 11 am and it was glorious. The fusspot was apparently fine. Let's hope we get to repeat said luxury in another 2 years or so.
4. My family is getting much better about watching the fusspot without my help the older she gets. But still a good motto to remember is: the help is never as good as you hope. Which explains how I made it into services (which by the way run from 9 am to 2 pm) for a little over 15 minutes at each of the 3 services we went to.
5. The fusspot's favorite game is still "put it in a box," no matter how many glorious new toys she is surrounded by.
6. My girl is a total city girl. She knows that streets are taboo to walk in in NYC because they have cars in them. When she encounters a street sans cars she presumes it is playground and gets rather pissed when you try to move her.
7. Traveling while on a super-restrictive diet sucks. Despite indulging in some serious desserts, I had trouble finding enough calories to eat every day. I am sure that I lost at least 5 pounds but am working on putting it back on. One more good reason to stick close to home for a while.

The Squash Duo (and their parents) were sad to see you go-- Come back soon! Next time, I'll show you the upstairs, and you can marvel at the storage options. Ooooh. Lots and lots of closets and four attic spaces! Fancy! Downside to the storage and the bathroom and washer and the 5-chair kitchen is that in order to be affordable, it has to be in Win.ston-Bleepin'-Sale.m... Sigh. (I find myself wanting to sing that song from West Side Story: "I have my own washing machine/What do you have though to keep clean?", etc.)
And as soon as you know for sure what you're growing in there (it's a boy, right? I'm leaning heavily toward a boy...), I'll have another shipment of clothes to pass along. I think we're probably a little off with seasons/size alignment, but what you don't use or want, you can always sell, right? It seems it's no big deal to dress a baby girl in somewhat boyish clothes anyway.
And HEY. The hair looks cute! Quit dissing yourself! It does NOT make you look five years older! Yes, it looks like it might be easy-maintenance, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with that (she says with her hair in it's typical back knot... I seriously think the boys get confused when they see me with my hair down. They stare and stare and stare.). You actually inspired me to take myself to a salon on Sunday and get four inches cut off my hair. Not that it made a big difference. I walked out (with my hair NOT in a ponytail), and H says, "Did you get it cut???", as though I had just made him drive me to the salon and entertain the boys for half an hour, all for just *this*? Just goes to show that 1) men are sometimes exceptionally poor observers and 2) that my hair had gotten so long that losing 4 inches of it made no difference (bonus third option would be that -duh- I never take my hair out of a ponytail long enough for H to see how incredibly long it had gotten).
We loved catching up with you guys. Fusspot is ADORABLE as always. She just gets cuter and cuter. She's growing up so fast!
