Nothing much new over here. The 2 days of lying curled up in a ball in bed followed by 2 more days of not eating from food poisoning have completely tanked my supply. These J cups are pumping 2 ounces (total) at a time nowadays. The dumpling needs at least 12 ounces of milk to go to daycare. Yeah.
What I am doing:
- Feeding him every possible minute, including leaving work to nurse. This would have been totally sufficient with the fusspot (after all we survived swine flu (while living alone abroad), the dreaded pox (mine and hers), the gas baby of 2010 and a pregnancy without any real drop in supply) but the dumpling is not a great nurser. After a minute or two he unlatches to smile at me, look around and check on his feet, the usual. Even when we're alone in a dark room. It's infuriating. The baby cannot nurse to sleep because he gets distracted by everything.
- Pumping every 2 hours when separated, after every feed when we're together
- Motherlove "magical concoction of gross green plants" as per bottle
- Drinking lots
Any other suggestions? We're going to the beach for the weekend so I'm planning plenty of time alone in the bedroom nursing, but we need this fixed. Soon.
Any suggestions welcome. In the meantime I'll be pumping.
ps - Yes, yes, yes I know that there is nothing wrong with using some formula to tide us over until solids. But, as always, every ounce of formula is a sign to your body that it doesn't need to produce all that much milk, and since I would very much like to breastfeed ... well, practically forever, I need milk. And yes, when I am all done nursing forever I am most assuredly going to get a little cosmetic surgery done and maybe land up as a totally adorable wear-a-dress-without-alterations D cup. Bliss.

I'm sure you've tried fenugreek, but it really did work for me. Here's hoping your supply is back up to the levels the dumpling needs before long!
I don't have any suggestions but wish you the best of luck! I know when I was super sick breast feeding was so important to me, so I very much hope something works soon.
I wish I had some useful advice. I gave heard oatmeal & a dark beer can both help, but I venture to guess you are more expert than I at this point. I hope you get through it, I ended up having to supplement with Pumpkin at 9 months due to poor pumping situation, but we were able to continue nursing until a year +. I also just hope for the same with little Bear
I second the fenugreek suggestion. Also, oatmeal seemed to help with supply. Otherwise, if you're really feeling low you could try domperidone.
I can relate to the frustration of wanting your baby to nurse and increase your supply and yet, nothing working. Hang in there.
And yes, it is ok to give some formula while you get your supply back. Meanwhile, continue to pump if dumpling is too distracted.

I used this when my supply got wonky during some awful days of nursing my twins. It worked very very well, and no funny smells!
I was a fenugreek junkie. And I think the oatmeal helps too.
After a bad supply dip I broke down and ordered some domperidone from http://inhousepharmacy.biz/ ... I wasn't very comfortable doing that since I couldn't feel 100% comfortable about the source, but pumping was killing me and I really needed the help. That stuff did the trick! I took the first pill and woke up the next morning with JUGS! It let me ease on my pumping a bit and not worry so much about supply. I was in process of weaning off of it when I lost my job and totally weaned shortly there after and didn't have any problems with it, so I'm glad that I did it, but ordering meds from another country is kinda shady business. I'd definitely try the oatmeal and fenugreek first. You can get good fenugreek at GNC. If you ever want to try the domperidone, I have almost 2 boxes of it left that I'd be happy to send you. If you ever decide to order from overseas, be warned that it can take 2-4 weeks.
